Just got an e-mail from a musician friend of mine, the standard one everyone on her mailing list gets, there was this fun little tidbit in there as well...

A "not sure if this is a highlight" moment of the tour: watching the odometer in my 2006 Toyota Matrix make it's way up towards 300,000 Km, and having it get stuck at 299,999! HA! I SO wanted to take a picture of it hitting that magical number, and it still reads 299,999. Sigh. Interesting, too, that the "Check Engine" light came on at that exact time. Maybe my car wants a party, it has driven many Kms and has seen me through many a snow-storm, a most trusty and reliable vehicle. It could be time, though, for something a bit bigger, esp for future tours. As skilled as JD and I became at packing the car, it sure would be nice to have a bit of extra leg-room & be able to see out of all the windows

D'OH !!!! She fell for it.... That's the reason why it magically got stuck and the light came on. Have her bring it in and the BCM reprogrammed and let it roll. Don't fall for the built in sales pitch....:wall:

(VW's were programmed to trip the light at 60K a while back. No idea if they still do)

"OK...I was more appalled by the outside temp! :wink-new:"

It's ok the -8 is in centigrade. Its really 18 degrees.

Since modern speedos are electronic...no cable...check engine light is probably telling you there is a fault....and most likely in the speedo circuit!

Normally yes but chances are it's programed into the BCM to come on for her "300K service". I seriously doubt it's coincidental that it broke right at 300K given manufactures practice of regularly "servicing" :smile:banana: ) their customers at pre programed points.

EDIT:
Just found this https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/...2008/278416-well-i-hit-299-999-my-speedo.html .....

The deck is stacked against "you" more than most folks could ever imagine.
