the generator test video

Well all is good with the generator I replacement on my tr3. The light went out and the regulator is working fine. Plus, I found a bunch of old generator stuff. My concern now is after watching the generator test video by Moss. Do I need to also hook a ground to the generator when I hook up “a power source” to the small lead on the generator like in the video? I assume it is a 12V power source. Moreover, is that a wire in the picture that comes out from behind the Moss advertisement? I hate to ask dumb, but the video is not that clear to me. Anyway I guess it must be a ground wire and the video is using one 12v power source and common a ground?
