Not certain when the last roll went through it, the thing has been idle in my leather bag for a couple decades. Meter is inop, but mechanically it seems to work. Put a couple batteries in it and went thru the shutter speeds, looking from the open back and no lens. It appears the timing is at least changing. It looks as if it'd been used as a pull-toy. It may go for the same CLA as the F-2. The MD-4 seems to be toast tho.

I've that last roll of B&W "Educators Choice" ISO 400... That'd tell me if shutter is anywhere close to right.

"Father & Son" ?

Good luck on the refurb. I'm surprised there is no mount for a flash on the F3.

PC connector to "off camera" or an adaptor that slides over the rewind knob and connected through dedicated contacts for a hot shoe mount: Nikon part # AS-4. An AS-1 was for the F-2, single "smart" contact (both of those were black). Before that the FtN adaptor was just a single center contact. (Gray in color)

It was a real PITA when it came time to reload. Better off with a flash bracket and a PC cord. It did set the flash head left-of-center so red-eye was less problem.

The gizmo. Outer knurled piece rotates to lock it in place. Like a rotating darkroom door. And you can see why my "pull-toy" description is apt.

Put the 50mm ∱1.4 on the beast and loaded the last roll of that Arista 400 ISO B&W. We'll see...
