The End of Weber Woes!

So I decided to fianlly look at all the possible causes for why I hated this DG weber. Lets be real I, was indeed just being lazy, I mean the carb was installed 180 derees on the mainfold, the car wouldnt idle below 1200 and hot ran to 1800, the timing was all over the place. So I finally sat down and read every bit of info that I had printed including the weber tuning book. Alas I took it apart and made few slight changes.

1) my Main jets seemed too big. Car was giving some black smoke and smelled real rich.

2) My idle jets were much too small, the car was running very rich at idle but only because it was being over-compensated by the idle adjustment screw thus exposing other jets (more fuel) and opening the throttle plate enough to advance the timing 8 degrees.

So I flipped in some new jets threw a rebuild kit at it for the heck of it, removed the maniflod spacer, rotated the carb, popped a liquid filled pressure gauge under the hood. (Ahhh 5lbs. too much..) adjusted the regulator to 2lbs, adjusted the timing and Wahlahhh! This weber is not so bad. Idles at 900 perfectly and sound great with the lopey cam I'm running. Pulls harder past 5000 which it never did before (even with Leaner Main jets) I LOVE IT! Now when I get the parts to fix the electric choke Ill be on my way!

Tonight I plan to drop my fuel tank and figure out why I always read 1/2 tank...

As always with Webers (or most any carb) the devil is in the details. Once sorted they are usually reliable. It's just that some folks haven't the time/patience/knowledge to sort 'em. I still think SU's are more appropriate for the application but it all comes down to personal preference. Good on ya.

Stick around with this lot and you may find a set soon! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

EDIT: See "Weber conversion" in the MG forum for a grin.
