My wife was talking to a customer yesterday, and it came out in conversation that he has three Spitfire chassis, a "dipped" Spitfire body (not sure what that means, but I plan on eyeballing these items soon) and a parts car that he is considering getting rid of.

In addition, his friend has a "restoration project" Stag, sitting outside his home, that he has never been able to get around to working on, and likely never shall.

I was "volunteered" to help them dispose of these items, but there is a temptation to go over to the dark side and become a "Rumphy".......that Stag, if not too far gone, would be a wonderful project for my sons and I.

My MGB needs nothing, and so there is a serious need for something to tinker with.........

Any thoughts from the assembled multitude? I already know what Jaybird will say /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
 
Nothing wrong with either of them for projects, Steve. I don't know much about Stag parts availability, but the Spit stuff is easy.
They're all still LBC's, so go for it.
Jaybird will see the error of her ways eventually.

Probably an 'acid dipped' body. Good way of removing all the rust, bondo, paint etc... from the steel body and showing you really just how much body work needs to be done. I've seen fairly solid looking cars go into an acid bath and then when they come out you wonder how they ever stayed together.

Sometimes hard to get all the acid neutralized though and it can sometimes 'seep' out and ruin finished bodywork.
 
I've always liked Spitfires, almost bought a round-tail before I got my first LBC. They're all a bit different, but fun too. I'd say if finances and space allow, go for it!

Oh, and he has a GT6 body, described as "rough"......I am planning on taking a ride up there and having a good look at everything, so expect a thorough report. I'll post anything of interest in the 'Rumphy forum.

Only problem would be with that Stag, unibody construction, kept outside in Wisconsin, where if it's not raining or snowing, it's humid......depends if it's protected, and if so, by what. Can't wait to go take a look at it now.
 
Only two on that list I'd be curious over are the Stag and the GT6. But I'm ~jaded~ y'know. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
 
Sounds interesting... but surely not the dark side for someone that's already fallen into LBC'dom....
 
I'd go over to the dark side for a Stag in a heartbeat!!
 
A Stag is a car certainly worth going after, as long it's not too rotten to restore... I believe these days there is plenty of parts supply for them here in North America, and I'm sure as you know the reliability issue with them (when they were new) has been solved

This sounds like the kind of situation where - if you have enough storage - you might be able to pick up the works for a song, and then just sell off whatever you don't want to keep
 
I'm with sherlock on this one... But, I also don't have a 3 acre storage facility, or I'd be broke buying up cars I thought had potential. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
 
Can't hurt to take a look and pick up whatever strikes your fancy...Triumph, MG, they're both LBC's.
