The Bugeye Shuffle

I've invented a new game, called the Bugeye shuffle. It's like one of those tile puzzles, where you have just the one blank space to use to move the little tiles around. Not a bad workout, either. With the MG work done, I wanted to switch the Tunebug and the Midget around so I could get to the Tunebug for some projects I have. Snow on the ground complicated things a bit. The other complication is that I only have 1 car worth of wheel dollies, and the MG has no wheels.

So it was pull the truck out of the garage, slide the MG over, jack MG up and put on axle stands, jack Tunebug up and put on dollies, slide Tunebug over, jack Tunebug up and put back on floor, jack MG up back on dollies, slide MG to wall, jack MG up and put on boards/jack stands, jack Tunebug back up and back on dollies, slide Tunebug back. And did I mention it's about 20f right now, hence the snazzy outfit. I'm tired just thinking about it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Done!

Oh, and you could fit 4 Sprite-sized cars in this garage, easy. Though I don't think there would be much room for the bed I'd need as I'd be sleeping in the garage at that point! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Drew, couple ideas.

Put the yellow shell cross wise in the back of the garage, Tunebug should fit straight in then,

could also remove windsheld on the shell and turn it up on the side on a matress.

Or even use some heavy stuff and put it overhead like we do boats.

Is that a 2-step or square dance? Do-si-do...hehehehe

At least all that "dancing" must have helped keep you warm, if not work up a sweat!

I still think you need to build that shell!!

I think it's a square dance, Tony. I wish I had the software to do a time lapse movie -- it would have been pretty funny to see me dancing with the cars. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Jack, this is the only way the cars fit in right now. You can see from the 3rd picture that I've got the 2 LBCs, motorcycle, and snow blower in my bay of the garage (lots of toys). Back of the garage is full of shelving, workbench, tools, and parts.

I've got plans to clear out the back of the garage so that the Tunebug will have a permanent home there, across the back. Once the MG is gone in a month or so, I'll have room to start the garage rebuilding process. Maybe someday I'll have the financing to put in a 4-post lift, but that will take a while.

Jenny is understanding if I need the full garage for a quick project or for the day, but I do my best to never leave her truck outside overnight. She was laughing a bit at my efforts, and she thinks I'm a bit silly. But she does understand.

Actually looks like I've got the shell sold to a fellow BCFer. Just waiting on the check, and it'll be official. I've only got funding/space/time for one car, even that's a bit of a stretch.

Mike, I did work up quite a sweat, even given the cold temps. Garage is not heated, but it is mostly insulated, so it is bearable out there in the winter. But just. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Working in garage in t shirt today, raining but warm.

Drew, that is funny. I like the tile game analogy--an immediate visual connection.

As for moving the cars around, I've said this before, but if you have the engine removed, the shell is quite light and can easily be moved around with your average furniture dolly. This is what I did with my BE before the engine. The one I have is not even all that heavy duty--I'm sure if it was, you could even be less careful with how much you have on it.

With the furniture dolly located at center of gravity right around the driveshaft tunnel, I was pushing the BE around with one hand. It was a snap.

That's a great idea, if I had a furniture dolly -- too cheap to buy one and to lazy to make one. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

It's certainly not that heavy with the bits removed. That's good, since it will need to be loaded onto a flatbed at some point when the new owner picks it up.

oh come on now Drew. I've seen your handy work, your forum comments and your web site. I know you are not lazy...

1) go to home depot one evening, pick up 4 heavy castors, 16 nuts/bolts and one 2x6 (and have them cut it there for you for free): 30 mins and $40

2) drill the holes and tighten up the nuts/bolts: 15 mins and free

TOTAL: 45 mins and $40!

how long did the tile game take you? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Actually, it's more that I'm cheap. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

$40 will buy a few bits that the Tunebug needs, and I can manage fine for now until the tub is gone.

Harbor Freight has (had?) one on sale for $17.00 which is the one that I use for my garage.

Is it understanding or tolerating, there is a difference that my wife makes perferctly clear periodically.

Definitely understanding. She knows how much I enjoy the old car hobby, and she'd argue with me if I ever came to the point of deciding to get out of it. Not interested in it herself, but sometimes she knows me better than I do.
