Whats the best way to get my steering wheel off?
Steering wheel puller wont work,at least the ones I can rent. I put the 74 on but my friend watching the tire alignment was not really paying much attention so the steering wheels on exactly upside down.
I'm concerned now. Did the splines match your car's steering column? You might've done some damage to them if they didn't and you forced it on anyway. If they matched, see my answer in the pub... If they didn't and you forced it... Call tony to buy a used steering column - You might never get the wheel off (and if you do, the splines will be damaged making it hard to put the old wheel back on.)

I think earlier I was worried the wheel was incorrect...if it is correct, all you should have to do is yank it...if the splines are incorrect & you forced it, you may need a new steering column
did you check to see that the wheel had the same number of splnes as the column?
did you use an adapter?
did you have to force the wheel onto the column? or did it just slide on?

I went out to the garage & studied steering wheels...the '77-'80 wheel has 35 splines...the 2 wheels used from '70-'76 have 37 splines...so, you've put a 37 spline wheel on a 35 spline column...good luck pulling it
