The ancient FD lenses

The FD-=RF adaptor arrived today. I have not shot with all the FD lenses yet but Here are a couple with the Sologor 28-70 f2.8 (don't recall where I had the aperture). All also the monster Tokina 500mm f8 that some old guy in Florida gave me. These were all manual focus of course. Unfortunately the manual focus guide in the R5 doesn't work with these old FD lenses, BUT--- Focus Peeking does work, When a specific area is in focus I see a red (or whatever color I want to set it) glow in the area being focused. It's pretty good unless you have a real shallow DOF.

First, the FD28-70mm

Then I tried that Tokina 500mm f8 monster. Had to brace on my propane tank. Shutter speed was low due to F8 aperture and the IBIS wasn't great with this lens at 500mm. Still, I was pretty amazed at the results. Give some wild bokeh!

I think the background blur on this looks like smoke.

The Soligor is apparently still a usable lens! The adaptor was a good idea.

The mirror 500 is a surprise, there was no Canon here to try it on. Certainly not very practical compared to modern optics, but it looks to be acceptable if the full frame is the intended shot. Decidedly a tripod lens, a 'novelty' piece. And DoF seems REALLY shallow at shorter distances!

As a parallel to the Tokina, just pulled out the Nikkor-C 500mm ∱8 mirror. Full frame, 1/500th sec (and obviously ∱8-fixed), ISO 1000. Tripod mounted, distance to subject 65.5'. Scaled to post. DoF is pretty good at that distance.

There is something magical about the background blur on this mirror tele lenses. WAs that hand held or tripod?

As stated, on a 'pod. Even at a 500th I didn't want camera movement to be a factor.

Background highlights tend to become circular, the mirrors tend to do that.
