An interesting discussion on what to shoot when there's nothing to shoot.

I'd post a texture shot of some concrete, but... πŸ˜‰

So instead:

Some of the images in that video are ones I'd "studied" as a kid. Weston's "pepper" shots among 'em. And the use of wide-angle optics in others on there have me thinking I'll 'restrict' myself to a wide angle for a bit and have some fun with that.

I have several lenses. One of the fun things I like to do is to go out and about and only take one lens and make the best of it will my feet. Makes you think and move a bit more.

Thanks.

This is kinda mundane, but using the 80~200 ∱2.8 on the neighbor's bloom. Zoom set at 155mm, 1/640 sec. at ∱18 and ISO 800. Distance to subject 11 feet. Isolated the background just enough, IMO.

Cropped about 80%:

Shoulda said cropped about 20%... keeping 80%!!

Wow, f18! (or did you mean f8?). I'd have expected more of the background in focus stopped down that much.

Most of the background was 60 to 80 feet away. You can better see background detail in the bottom half of the entire frame. Actually, seems like half of the original frame cropped. Tried to find the "balance" between DoF on the bloom and isolation of the background. Screenshot with EXIF info:
