The 500mm mirror at twilight... with the squirrel

Trying to work on hand-held shots with this mirror lens. These were with the ISO at 1250, 1/250th. Lens is a fixed ∱8. Used GIMP to lighten them a bit. DoF is really skinny at this distance, about 25 feet away.

EDIT: On seeing these, Mitsy says she's named it "Elliot."

Didn't know you had another! Very good for hand held at that focal length (especially #2). The bokeh has the same or very similar double exposure look to it that the copy you sent me has. Is this one also manual focal only?

Same focus, manual only. Fixed ∱8. With the APS-C sensor it works out to a 750mm and around ∱10~11, so not much hope with twilight lighting.

That "double exposure" look is a characteristic of the mirror optics. Two reflections when an object outside the focal point hits the focal plane of the camera.

This one is a Nikkor-C version, got it from a seller in Japan for "skinny money" a while ago. The shots of the cell tower with a juvenile osprey were taken with it, along with the other birds in that thread.

That would explain it. I think it's kind of a cool nostalgic look.

Tripod mounted and with good enough light to use higher shutter speeds, they can be remarkably sharp. The cell tower in that prior thread is a good example. And the birds were all hand held shots.
