I appreciate your comment about needing the BCF, Sail. If it were to go away, it would be a

The car is solid as a house. I have trouble with jackstands teetering on my uneven floor.

I know that picture all too well... my Spit 6 looked like that a few days ago... I had the LF suspension ripped apart in order to install GT6 brakes I bought with the car... until I saw the tip of that "while I'm in there..." iceberg... except I don't have the parts/funds right now to start on that...

So the old suspension/brakes went back on... and I'll tackle the GT6 brakes again when I have collected all of the wished-for parts (RF GT6 suspension tower; front steel lines; shocks/springs; Bell exhaust; carb linkage; some tranny bits).

Fortunately, experience has taught me when to say "stop!".

Why do you need a GT6 suspension tower? Are you putting in a GT6 engine? Otherwise, all suspension bits between Spitfire and GT6 brakes are identical, save for the vertical link and tie rod arm. :confuse:

As previously noted, I have a Spit 6.

Unfortunately, the build was somewhat of a kludge and for whatever reason, the left tower is from a GT6... while the right side has a Spit tower... with a few (not enough) LCA bracket spacers between the tower and the motor mount... and a bit of the tower torched off in an attempt to clear the ill-fitting (and rusty) 6-1 Pacesetter header...

I tend to have a "do it once and be DONE" motto, even if it costs a bit more. Therefore the plan is to aquire and install the correct GT6 tower and replace the crusty header with a stainless Bell 6-2-1 version.

yes Ian and drooartz, its hard when to say when. i would like to get through all the mechanics in the next couple of years so i can really trust the car. this round there is quite a bit to do but maybe by spring i will be driving again for a bit.

new parts, hundreds of work hours trying to repair the damage.

How many miles did you drive this season before this fatal breakdown?? Just curious.

Tinster, i've got 800+ miles since the speedo was installed. prior to that probably an additional 800 this summer. In between was attention to whatever seemed the most pressing. but i will say i drove the car enough to get comfortable in it and i LOVE it, so thats ok to look at in in the garage this winter and get it closer to trusting.

I don't think of it as a "fatal breakdown" Dale.
More a preventive maintenance.
