What is served on your table at Thanksgiving?

I've always had these basics:

Turkey - Baked
Mashed Potatoes
Yams with brown sugar & butter
Brussle Sprouts
Turnips with bacon & onions
Bird Bread stuffing with nuts
Non bird meat stuffing
Creamed Onions
String beans
Corn nibblets with butter
Jellied cranberry sauce

Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie

This year were trying something new. The Turkey Fryer. I hear that once you've tried it, it's tough to go back.

I'm already starting to get hungry!

Roast lamb, mint sauce and yorkshire pud.
Paxo stuffing and Bisto gravy.
Potatoes roasted in the lamb juice.

Around here (western Maryland) they serve sauerkraut with the traditional turkey, stuffing, (which they call "filling" here (more appropriate name?)) cranberry sauce, etc.

Maybe it's a German culture thing. We didn't have it for Thanksgiving back in West Virginia. Come to think of it, we didn't have sauerkraut at all!

Lets see,
Smoked Turkey
Smoked Ham
Sweet Potato casserole
Green Bean casserole
English Peas
Oh, almost forgot the dressing
Yeast rolls
Pecan Pie (NOT THAT STORE BOUGHT STUFF)
Chocolate Pie (SEE ABOVE)
Sweet Potato Pie (YOU KNOW)
and to top it all off, a gallon of sweet tea.

I love Thanksgiving. I like it more than all the other holidays combined. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I'm headin' up to my sister's in Vermont this year, and we have some traditional stuff on the menu. There will be about fifteen people there, so there will be a mess of food.

Roast turkey stuffed with a sausage, apple and bread stuffing. I remove the breastbone of the turkey. You can get lots more stuffing in there, the breast meat is easier to carve, and the bird cooks in a third less time.

Someone's bringing a one of those ham's. They are always good.

Roast potatoes, probably some sweet potatoes also.

Lot's of gravy, made with beef boulion and some porter. Cranberry sauce (the jellied kind), assorted veggies, and of course, I will be making Spaetzles...yeah, more gravy.

Pies of various types, some wine and beer, and I won't be able to move for two days. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

Happy Thanksgiving to all. You are a wonderful group here, and I personally thank you and Basil for everything you've done to make this board so great. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Last year I added lamb, as I had been given a really nice leg by a friend...Wecooked it on the Weber....it caught fire (I swear because it had been marinated in wine!)...an omen....I then made the mistake of mentioning to the wife that it had actually come from a Wiccan sacrifice (it had)....no one would touch it (which left a LOT more for me!)

Herself is travelling to her folks' place, takin' the train later today. I'm on guard duty. I'll miss the fete so will likely have a grill-up here of some description. Gonna miss the mom-in-law's borscht 'n perogies tho. S'okay: Christmas is comin'. That's when the REAL Uki food starts flowin'.

Sure. You can probably still catch a flight out this afternoon. I'm on the way to the airport now /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

Supposed to be in the 20s at night though, is it worth it? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I was just in the kitchen looking at the mountain of food I have to prep before the hordes descend tomorrow (I do the cooking in this house - 'er indoors does the cleaning, which works out nice for both of us).

Anyway, here goes:
Lemon-Herb Turkey with Lemon Grrlic Gravy
Three Mushroom Dressing with Prosciutto
Cornbread Dressing with Roasted Fall Vegetables
Cranberry Pear and Ginger Chutney
Cranberry and Blood Orange Relish
Bourbon-Walnut Sweet Potato Mash
Potato Gratin with Porcini Mushroom and Mascarpone Cheese
Roasted Fingerlings with Red and Yellow Piperade
Brussels Sprout Hash with Caramelized Shallots
Smashed Rutabaga with Ginger Roasted Pears
Lemon Roasted Green Beans with Marcona Almonds
Braised Fennel with Olives and Garlic
Dipping Biscuits

Maple Pecan Tart
Apple and Quince Crisp with Rum Raisins
Cranberry Chocolate Tart
Trifle

If anyone subscribes to Bon Appetit, the recipes will look oddly familiar. We decided to change the menu this year...

Nothing Fancy traditional fare:

Baked Turkey
Baked Ham w/pineapple honey mustard glaze (David's Dad's recipe)
Sweet potatoes from the garden (my Mom's recipe)
Garden green beans (my Uncle's recipe)
Garden crowder peas
Dressing (David's Mom's recipe)
Mashed potatoes
Brown Gravy (my Grandmother's recipe)

For dessert:
Pumpkin pie with REAL whipped cream on top (my Brother-in law's recipe)
Banana Pudding(David's Grandfather's recipe)
Cheese Cake (My own recipe)

Several years ago, I compiled all of my recipes on the computer and noted on each one where it came from. I set them so they can be printed onto index cards (They fill a standard card box now) This file continues to grow and every time we plan a major family meal its fun to remember all of the people who contributed to it! (Sort of like still having all of our family together at the table!)

Roast turkey stuffed with a sausage, apple, onion and
bread fillin'. I'm a PA guy myself.

Lots of smashed potatos with gallons of gravy. Whole berry
Cranberry sauce ,assorted veggies and fresh bread.

IBID:

"Happy Thanksgiving to all. You are a wonderful group here,
and I personally thank you and Basil for everything you've
done to make this board so great" .............

and most of all, after two years of most generous help,
I finally have a functional 1969 TR6 named Amos who will
be in the streets touring Thanksgiving day.

We all have much for which to be thankful and much
we can give to others less fortunate.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
