Does anyone happen to know if there is a name for the type of flare used on a Midget 1500 fuel line at the gas tank? I just bought on of VB's "ready made" fuel feed kits, and it falls way short. Basically, it does not have the threaded union that the gas tank requires, the copper tubing they send isn't flared, the long piece has to be cut to the right size, and they still don't have enough copper tubing to actually do the whole fuel line up to the carburetor. I cut the last two inches off the old fuel line and re-used the union, but I went to a couple of shops and no one seemed to have the right flaring tool. It's a cone shaped flare, but it is a male end as opposed to a female end. So far I only got VB to admit that none of their kits have the union, and their supplier can't flare the ends. They are sending me a union, but I suspect it won't work with the old piece of fuel line because it's thicker than the rest of the line at that point.

I've been wondering about the connection to the tank. I thought about replacing my fuel line but in the end I just blew mine out and flushed it really well. It seems like that end fitting might be a little hard to find then? If the tubing is the same OD you can use a compression type coupling to connect it to the new fuel line. It all looked like it was 1/4" to me but I didn't measure it.

ditto, JC- I just replaced my tank, and the line looked like it was in good shape, so I taped one end up to my compressor and blew the line out. My gas is nice and clean now when it passes through the filter. My old line mated right up to the "new" tank though. I say "new", because it was new 6 years ago, but has been on the shelf still sealed and never used. It came with the car when I bought it.

i abought an AN fitting..dont remember the number...maybe a 4???....i had to lengthen it some by relieving the shoulder next to the hex( in other words , increase the amount of thread relief, so that it would bottom out in the tank.

For now I just took the end of the old fuel line and put that back into the tank. Then I took the new tubing and connected it to the old with a piece of hose. Now the only trouble is I have to go check on the length that goes over the transmission, because the pump STILL vapor locks. On the plus side, the fuel gauge finally works since I fixed the wiring to the sender and made sure it had a good ground connection. To answer JC's question, it is 1/4" line. Supposedly a brake line fitting will work in the tank, but since I couldn't find a pre-made brake line long enough to go all the way I opted for the kit (oops).
