Just wanted to say thanks to Bundyrum. The valve you sent me fitted perfectly. It would appear that although a 100/4 engine it was modified to take 100/6 exhaust valves. Toying with the idea of modifying the standard manifold to take larger SU's.

Thanks for your help.

Hello OZ BN1,

Glad to be of assistance. Funny enough that was the only valve I had that size. I think from memory that 100/6 valves are smaller than 100/4's so it may have been a 3000 one.

As far as what you're doing with the inlet manifold that's a good idea. There are a couple of ways to achieve the desired results. The first is what you're already doing although myself I would have used a thicker piece of aluminium to give you more material under the Unbrako. I think the ones I made were out of 1/2" (13mm)thick material. You can also reduce the thickness of the head of the Unbrako so the flange doesn't have to be spotfaced so much. I would also have made the flange taller in height to cover all around the outside of the Unbrako. That way you can have a gasket that is clamped all the way around the Unbrako.

The other way to do it is to get a piece of weldable aluminium ie 6061,5052,1100 series and weld the flange to the manifold and make sure you get the flange face machined afterwards.

There are probably other ways to get the job done as usual.

What model SU's are you going to use?, I hope it's HD6's. they are much easier to use than HS types. Sorry I don't have any spare HD's available.

Is that a copy of a "Sonic" extractor you have there?.

You are going to love the difference this setup makes to the BN1. They just breathe that much better and the sound is nicer also.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Hi

It's a bit hard to tell in the photo but the ally is about 18mm, with the cap screws machined down to enable plenty of contact. HD6 SU's and the extractors picked up from the Healey Factory in Melbourne.

Thanks again
