What is the right battery for a TF and how in the world do you get it in there? Do I have to undo the rear hinge clip and raise the bonnet? Sounds crazy, but a battery for our MGB won't go in there with everything in place, the posts hit the bonnet hinge bracket. I don't normally drink, but this car is getting me close!:thirsty:PJ

yep, you have to take the hood off to put a battery in so make it a good one so you don't have to do it often. Group 24 works good if I remember the right size. Just remove the rear two screws that hold the back mount. Slide the whole hood back and lift off.

Thanks Marv for the info. Talking to LaVerne, I found out an Optima battery can be installed without removing the bonnet, but has to be laid partially on it's side to get it in. Good battery and a little pricey, but worth the extra cost just for that reason. Handling this car with kid gloves now, I don't want to disturb any sheet metal. PJ
 
Just bought a Group 34 Optima, which is about 1 inch lower in height than a conventional battery, so it should slip right in with no problems, without removing the bonnet!! Hard to believe it weighs 42 pounds for it's size. 800 cranking amps, plenty of reserve. They make a Black Lucas fake cover for it and with that on it'll be a lot more traditional looking. PJ
 
I have an Optima in my Porsche 912. It's a nice battery. Not a molecule of acid, which is important in a 912, as any acid leakage can damage the front suspension pan, a common rust area.
 
Steve, I tried to get the battery out of the MGB, group 24 in it and it won't go without taking the bonnet off, something I don't want to do again and the Optima 34, being about an inch lower should slide right in with no problems. That's the main reason I chose the battery I did. Through Amazon, I got it cheaper and a 3 year total replacement comes with it. Not bad I figured. I'll have to get a cover for it, as it looks totally out of place in an old car. :encouragement: PJ
