ROFL!!!!

Agricultural and Mechanical.

In truth, it's a great school - but rivalries being what they are, jokes abound.

Agricultural and Mechanical.

It was originally, but I heard they no longer use the full name and just get by with A & M:

So, I get to my office, and get back on the phone. This time, to Texas A&M University.
I ask the very nice lady who answers what the M stands for in Texas A&M. I don't want to lead her in any particular direction. Just "What does the M stand for in Texas A&M?"
She says (and this is verbatim) "It doesn't stand for anything."
I say, "Doesn't A&M stand for Agricultural & Mechanical?"
She says, "It used to stand for Agricultural & Mechanical, but it doesn't stand for anything anymore. It's just Texas A&M University"
According to her, A&M went Bono, and became "Just A&M" some time back. She says it's SO MUCH MORE THAN just an agricultural and mechanical school, so they changed the name

Of course, after they made the change the joke made was that the Aggies could spell "A & M" then.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

A bit like M.G. then ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's a good one Mickey, thanks. And as an old LSU music major, we used to joke about the A&M Fight Dirge. Anyone ever hear it?

Another connection, Paul! I went to LSU ('68-'70) and remember fondly the rivalry between the two schools. Off the top of my head, I can't recall the dirge, but I'm sure once you or someone else names it, it will come back to me. I do remember a course in music that I took. The professor was Louis (can't remember his last name) - absolute fanatic of classical music.
