Testing Horns

Can anyone tell me an easy way to test the horns on a 1500 Midget? My aren't working and I haven't been able to determine if it's in the wiring, the steering wheel/column or the actual horns themselves. Can you just hook power and ground up directly to the two terminals on the horns without doing any damage? It the top terminal the hot and the bottom terminal the ground?

If the wireing is good to the horns, a test lite will tell you which wire is hot. IIRC it will be the purple wire The other is the ground. The horns are always hot (+12v) the switch is on the ground side at the steering wheel. Yes it is back arseward....

purple is "hot" perpetually, purple with a black tracer is the "trigger" ground, yup. Should have +12V at the purple one(s) all the time.
