Suction from the piston going down vs atmoshperic pressure? Surely its the piston movement that creates the pressure differential that atmospheric pressure can then push into- if the piston moved upward creating compression it'd then push out against the atmosphere. Its the movement of the piston and the suction or compression that creates that dictates the movement of the air, isn't it?
