A friend of ours is interested in an airplane for sale in Van Nuys California but he lives nowhere close. He'd like to find someone he can trust to look at it and fly it with the seller. Anyone in that area able and willing? Please let me know. Thanks.
 
Gary - I see you haven't got a reply yet, so here's a thought.

Your friend could contact AOPA and/or the area FAA Flight Standards District Office, and get contact info for FAA certificated A&P inspectors in the Van Nuys area. He could then "hire" the inspector to do an annual inspection and test flight (or something similar), with permission of the seller.

Yeah, run that past the owner, the reaction to that request alone will tell you what kinda shape the plane is in. :wink:
 
Anyone that won't let their aircraft be looked at for a PREBUY inspection (should be a annual inspection) you need to walk away from. And anyone buying with out it being looked at don't bitch at the cost of your inspection.
 
I sold my sons aircraft after he died. The buyer paid for an annual inspection and all costs incurred by him to get it ready to fly it to California. We only paid for the ad on Barnstormers. Because the buyer had to finance the aircraft, a tremendous amount of paper work passed between him and us to the financial institution. If he is buying it from a dealer, they take care of all of that. As Don said, an inspection is mandatory, otherwise it's a fools errand! PJ
 
Paul - did the buyer have the annual done *before* he committed to buy the aircraft?
 
No! The aircraft was in pristine condition and world class aerobatic pilots that knew my son and his aircraft recommended it to this buyer. PJ

Thanks guys. We have it covered now. I'm not inexperienced with this sort of stuff after being a commercial pilot/flight instructor and owning an FBO for 12 years...:smile: A friend of mine in Alaska is going to see that it's done correctly.
 
I don't know Kellysguy. It's a really small world. One of my old time pilot friends in Alaska is good friends with the seller of this airplane and also knows the plane. We are setting up an inspection and all ~should~ go well.
