Temporary dying/bogging

I have a 66' sprite that always runs great..... until last week. While I was driving, the sprite seemed to lose power for a second or two, but regained it shortly. Kinda like the fuel and car were shut off and then back on The rpm on the tach was up and then down, up and down, etc... fuel gauge lost power and then regained it.

Electric Fuel pump, points / condenser were changed about 1 1/2 years ago (very minimal miles), spark plugs changed about 2 months ago.

I will change the fuel filter tomorrow, but wanted to see what other steps I should take to figure out the problem.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like your fuse is not making contact very well-
CAREFULLY clean the fuse holder contacts and try again.

This is likely an intermittent electrical connection, since you see the tach bouncing. Start by wiggling wires to see if you can find the problem. As BillM says, fuses are also a likely culprit. But it could be almost anything.

By the way, the quality of the replacement condensers today is pretty low. (See the wiki.) Even though yours is new, it still could be bad. That alone is a good reason to get a Pertronix or some other electronic ignition.

be sure to check the low voltage side of the coil connections and make sure that they themselves are good IN, the coil... sometimes the coil goes bad right there. ... the tip off for me (not that i'm any good at any of this stuff, but I do read) is the fall off of the tach. Check also the connections at the starter switch in that same wire that runs thru the tach loop...

I am assuming that you are referring to the generalized fuses that deal with the fuel gauge, horn, lights, etc.... am I correct?
