Ok I got the front end all back together and figured while I had her up on jacks I would do an oil change. Man I had a hard time getting the oil filter off. Tried one of those rubber strap wrenches , NFG. Any tips for removing the filter? i.e. special tools? Meanwhile I got it off and busted the wire to the temperature sending unit. The PO had Mickey moused soldered it. Is there a proper type connector for it? There is no spade or male protrusion on the sending unit just a residue of solder.!!

Yes; there should be a spade. Probably time to replace it.

Yep, if no male spade on sending unit, grab a new one.

and the connector should be soldered even if you crimp it first. you'll get a lot more trouble free connection that way

Those oil filters can be buggers....luckily in the B we've got the room to puncture it with a long screwdriver and wrestle it off that way....I am not a big fan of those metal/rubber ring filter wrenches.
