temperature gauge question

i been reading the recent discussion on swapping to the 1275 and an interesting point was made about where the temp gauge bulb is attached. i was looking at my 67 rad the other day and there was a blowout pug on the side. i figured the connection for the temp bulb broke or leaked and they jammed a plug in there. But i also remembered a temp connection on the engine when it was being rebuilt. my 65 sprite has the temp bulb attached at the radiator not the engine. so where does the bulb go on a 67? rad or engine?
 
you canmount it anywhere there is a water jacket and boss but a more accurate reading will be in the cyl head front, drivers right.

Use the stock adapter and crush washer (Moss, VB etc) or....tap the BSP hole NPT and use an aftermarket gage adapter and gage if yours is B/O or not accurate.
 
In the head just forward of the #1 sparkplug.
 
so do i just put another blowout plug on the radiator? looks like crap
 
Did th same on my swap. Move plug from cyl head to radiator (former inlet for gauge) and gauge into hole in cyl head. Much better / accurate.

BE CAREFUL of the line for the gauge. It's old and expensive and hard to find replacements (many of my items are not stock).

well since my 65 rad is in overall better shape than the 67, i may just swap them and put the gauge on the rad. i don't have to worry about the gauge line since it's already broken. that's another cost down the road. the 67 doesn't have a boss either. it's just a hole in the side of the tank.
 
I broke mine a few years ago, and had the capilary tube replaced, didn't think it was to expensive(Roy Martin 802-862-6374). Those lines do get old and brittle, so they need care in removal and reinstallation.
