As I place my new interior in my BJ8, I discover missing or unusable 1/4 - 28 Tee Nuts in the wood frame for the rear seat back/parcel shelf assembly. These are required to place the bolts which enter from the wheel wells. Of course, I can find no fine thread tee nuts, as all that seem available are the 20 tpi variety. I could use these, but the bolts would then have to be the wrong head type. Not a really big deal, but it would be nice to re-use the original bolts, which are in fine shape, having been re-plated. Anyone have a source for these items? Thanks.
 
They may not be on their website, but I'd bet the dog's bollocks that Namricks will have them.

Shoot them an email and ask. Namricks is the best - > you can even get proper British lettered bolts from them and prices are quite fair.

I don't know where you looked in McMaster-Carr, but I found 70 different sizes there.

5 different tee-nuts for 1/4-20 thread.

Search again for Tee-Nuts. I've been buying stuff from McMaster for 40 years. Great place !

Tim, I'm well aware of McMaster, and use them happily, too. But the thread is 1/4-28, not the common 1/4-20. I'll keep looking, or just make facsimiles.

You said 1/4-28 in your original post. I missed it. I HATE it when THAT happens.

If'n it was ME, I'd take a 1/4-20 and run a 1/4-28 tap into it and then have it threaded for BOTH OR just use the cheep 1/4-20. It'll be covered and NO-ONE'll ever see it.

100 Point Concours only goes so far.....

Thanks, Tim. After consulting my good friend, who is also a gunsmith and machinist, he suggested tapping a 1/4-20 tee nut as you did. So, I followed his advice, and it seems that problem is solved. It's not as if this were a critical high stress part, after all. Thanks for the help.

BTW, you can get threaded inserts in the right size, which would be great if the wood were dicey.

Today I checked a hardware store here in Dallas that has only failed me 3 times, errr, make that 4 times in 30 years.

I also checked with a hardware distrubutor that was open 'till noon today. No Luck.

I'm glad that you decided to re-tap it to 1/4-28. That's an easy and cheep fix for a non-critical part.

Is Cutlass as in a long, broad, sword or as in Olds 4-4-2 ?
 
My other toy is a Cessna 172RG. Cessna gave this model the name "Cutlass." And you thought old cars were expensive? Don't get me started.

I'm a Viet Nam era military, civilian commercial, and police department chopper driver and fixed wing private. I've spent my share of time in a Cess, but didn't remember 172RG Cutlass. Too many models to keep up with.

The only thing more expensive than "plane" is "boat". "Race Car" is right up there too.

Tim, the Cutlass is a retractable gear, variable prop, 180 hp version of the venerable 172. 10 gph at 130 kts. It's been a great airplane.
