technique for installing eyebrow chrome series 3

OK: Did this in 1985 on my last series 3.. Having a tough time figuring the proper technique to "snap" the chrome over the proper "rivets"

Don't remember having problems then.. Any help or direction is appreciated. Have used one and two washers under the snap but can't get the chrome to pop on. Do not want to risk damage to new paint.

I've never done these but I've had trim on other cars that installed over the same type rivits and all I had to do was lay it over the rivit and swat it with the side of my hand and it would pop right on.

Thanks , but hasnt worked..even hit it with a rubber mallet with no success. Do not want to bend the piece..they aint cheap. Suspect the repro rivets are too large and need to be ground down which is my next step.

thanks

Well...finally got it figured out..so here it is for future references.

1. Used two washers instead of one,. one may work but have learned from other trim pieces that a little extra room works better.

2. Slid the eyebrow over the last rivet and position the next one with the brow tucked under the rivet on the bottom. Then with a rubber mallet hit the top of the brow (with a lot of force) popping the brow in place.

After doing this I remembered that this is how I did it in the mid 80's. Wish I would have remembered it before. If you just place the brow over the rivet and wack it, will not work, lower portion needs to be tucked under the rivet with the force appled to the top.
