Moss' TD Catalog says "Exterior piping should match exterior color"....The Original MGTD website says "The exterior piping (cord filled fabric material between sheet metal parts) color matched the body paint color."

....okay, so if that's true, I paint mine Sequoia Creme.

However, about half the photos of TD's I see have the exterior piping matching the interior...which is correct? We're putting fenders on right away & I need to know....

Right now, I'm leaning to painting the piping to match the body!

This car is driving me crazy!! Trying to build a 100-point car that's as close to original as possible is killing me!!

HELP!! HELP!!

So, I've found enough photos of unrestored TD's to agree with the 2 above references....we'll paint my vinyl piping that goes between the fenders & body to match the body color...funny though, the car on the cover of The Complete MG T.D. Restoration Manual is white with red piping to match the interior! hehehehw

Maybe that was the "Deluxe" model? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Absolutely should match body color. Do you own a copy of Clausager's Original TD book?

No, have not been able to find a copy.

Nope...its gonna match...I've just been through a bunch of factory photos & they all matched...we'll just be slowed a day while we paint the piping Sequoia Creme.

I got real lucky & scored one on eaby a few months ago. Bbuy it now $15 mint shape $8 shipping. I just got my peter burgess book, same way same cost. I'm trying to find TC's Forever.
Clausagers book and Hors Schact's(sp)book are two of the best books detailing the original TD.

I don't recall seeing contrasting beading on T-series cars until the late '70's or early '80's.

TCs Forever is easy to find. You won't get it for less than about $120 to your door. But it beats Moss' price af $175 or so plus shipping / tax.

I should ahve stated that I am looking for it but I am not going to pay a lot for it. $120 for a book sounds really high although through out the 80's I bought enough Beatles books that'll make your head spin. In today's dollars I bet it's the same amount.

You won't find a copy for less. You can buy it from Pitstop in Australia for $85 because of the exchange rate. But then you pay $35 shipping. That's the cheapest "to the door" price I've found anywhere, and they don't come up for sale used... ever.
