T-Series TC Oil Change

Hello Guys & Gals

I just drained the oil from my 48 TC as it had been awhile since the oil was changed. When I went to purchase a replacement oil filter for the car I was told that the filter for TCs are no longer being manufactured and are unavailable. I was told that I should upgrade the oil filter to the spin on type as they are much better. Okay, that makes sense so I ordered one and wouldn't you know it, they are on Backorder from all the known places for MG parts. No timeframe to when they will be available.

So my question to you is... How can I clean the original felt filter to reuse it?

I would like to update the filter but with no timeline as to when a conversion part will be available I'd like to clean the one I have and use it in the short term until conversion parts are available again.

I've let the felt filter sit for over two weeks on some absorbent material so as to pull out most of the dirty oil but the filter is still somewhat black, indicating to me that there is dirt still impregnated in the felt. Have any of you TC owners cleaned the felt filter and if so what steps did you take to clean the filter?

Thanks for any help with this situation.

Kevin,

A fellow in town that owns several TCs and probably too many pre-war MGs recommended From The Frame Up for spin-on oil filters. He said there are two kinds of spin-on adapters, both work fine. Said that most folks have converted to the spin-on. Have you checked with them?

Hi Bob. I’ve purchased several parts from Doug at From the Frame Up. They are one of the suppliers that are having Back Order issues at the moment.

I have another TC parts supplier I am going to contact in Canada that may have one.

Thanks for responding.
Kevin
