Tap & DIE

I don't think there is such a thing as a single kit. British Tool or someone like that will sell you a set of BA taps & dies, but even that plus a SAE set won't cover everything. For example, the instrument mounting studs appear to be two oddball metric sizes that I've never found in a set. Ditto the OD lockout switches (if you have OD). Only way I've found to buy those is to get the individual taps & dies (or live without, of course).

I just bought individual taps & dies from British Fasteners. 2BA and 4BA was the most common uncommon threads I ran across in the resto of my TR3. My instrument threads were fine, so I don't know what size they are. There are charts on that site that explain all of the different types British fasteners and their sizes.

The tach & speedo mounting studs on my pre-60K cars are M5x0.75 (they may have changed on later cars). I found a tap & die at MSC

OD isolator switches are M16x2. My local tool store had a tap on the shelf.

Sorry, I forget offhand what size the smaller gauges are. But I do know that trying to run a BA die up the threads will make a mess!

I forgot to mention, you may not have to have any of the unusual size taps & dies at all. There aren't all that many of them; judicious application of a wire brush will usually clean up external threads (bolts), and the nuts are usually OK inside (since they are full of bolt).

I use the Whitworth wrench set much more often than the BA taps & dies.

Bore brushes work great for cleaning internal threads !

Good to see you back AweMan. It's been too long.

I suppose I do owe some of you an explanation as to why I have been M.I.A. for a while. Some already know but to the others here goes I didn`t/don`t want a big hoopla or fanfare hence my reluctance in posting this. Three years ago I received a prostate cancer diagnosis Gleason score 8, nearly as bad aggressive wise as it gets.tow summers ago I had cryosurgery {they go in and freeze the tumor/s} it was ineffective at best Didnt work. last summer I went through a series of 40 radiation treatments. And started a regimen of hormone treatments {reduces the testosterone level} I have a C.T. scan every six months hoping and praying it doesn`t spread to my bones .... so far so good but ..... thats not all! last summer I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure last fall I had a defibrillator implanted, this spring they decided I needed a pacemaker so out with the defibrillator in with a defibrillator/pacemaker implant .YES it worked wonders I feel quite a bit of benefit from the new device.
On top of everything else being a former welder and all you might have guessed it yea C.O.P.D. to boot!

There is quite a bit more to this saga but what I have said is the general jest of things
Remember .... not looking for pity or fanfare I just thought I owed some of you an explanation as to why i`m not around as much

spelling/punctuation and grammar errors may be attributed to chemical interference { I have enough for both hands hahahahaha}

Glad you're back Kerry, both because it beats the alternative and because it's good to hear(?) your voice again. Quite a saga indeed! and in the midst of it all the phrase "worked wonders" stands out. Praying for you and asking for continued "wonders" in your life.

Indeed, I'm glad you're back with us for a spell.

Hopefully Basil won't mind if I share a non-LBC cartoon with y'all:

So sorry to hear you have had such an ordeal but it sounds like things may be looking up a bit. You'll be in my prayers too.

You just cost me over an hour looking up old Pogo strips and Walt Kelly. Thanks for the trip thru Time.
