Tale of Two Dash Panels?

Dash colors. I have two dash panels in the photo. The lighter or whiter of the two, is what was installed in my white exterior/shadow blue interior TR6. The other came out of my friends red TR6
Did Triumph color coordinate dash panel wood types or where they just luck of the draw or did wood types change year to year?

Mark- Any chance yours was bleached by the DPO?

The one at the back looks more like the colour that was in my '71 (and which I've since stained red mahogany).

The top one looks like my slightly (3-4 shades) faded original dash. I have seen quite a few of these "bleached" light dashes over the years, but no one seems to know how or why they look like that.

My first TR6 experience (actually my first TR experience) was while I was hitch hiking to Southhampton L.I. from New York. I got picked up in a white TR6 and it had a very light wood dash like yours. This was in 1971/2.

Are you sure that the lighter dash hasn't been nicely re-veneered? I've never seen a factory one like that, especially with the grain.

Oddly enough, I've seen at least three or four of them, but the owners were not the original owners, so they had no clue as to how it got that way.

It wasn't so much the color but possibly the wood type itself - I thought stock dashes were walnut, but from that picture I'm thinking that is not walnut - oak maybe?

"OK, what does the back of the glove box door look like? That will be hidden from the UV rays and will not be faded. That was the true color of the original."

Hmmm, here is a photo of the backs. Sherlock, the unmounted one has had the finish removed, the mounted one which is in the light dash seems about the same. So maybe the front has just faded or been modified. I think the ticket is a new veneer in walnut or something not yet seen at the veneer store.
