Take apart Steering Column??

1969 TR6 steering column-All day last Sunday on my back
trying to install the steering column mounted turn
signal unit on the left side and new driving lights
control unit on the right side.

Nothing in Bentley says how to remove or loosen that
tube-like affair on the bottom side of the steering
column that encapsulates all the wires. The wires are
tightly compressed somehow within that column and will
not budge with that tube in place.

Has anyone ever installed a new column mounted turn
signal assembly for a TR6 1969 steering column?

If so, how do you get the old wires out and how do you
get the new wires in?

Thanks again,

All you really need to do is loosen the uppermost clamp holding the column to the dash area. That should give you enough slack to remove the "tube-like affair"; that's much easier than forcing wires through either way (which is not impossible but not worth the risk to life, limb and tender ears nearby)! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Andy,

I removed the clamp but the tube barely moved
1/16" and I still could not get the old wires
out. Does the tube simply "yank" forward for
removal? I did not try to force it out by
pulling on it.

I was thinking about a cut-off saw to get it out
but I was afraid I would not be able to fabricate
a decent replacement tube.

I'll try giving it a good yank! See what happens.
