Ok, what is it that catches your eye? Is it the...hole in the bellhousing...or the fact that there's an OD gearbox behind that hole in the bellhousing? :laugh:

I would, at this stage of my life, consider that to be firmly in the "not economically salvageable" camp.
If that's all the parts, yeah, spare engine and trans......holed....no front wings, bonnet, nose, boot lid, driver's door, windscreen, taillights, headlights......look where it's located.
New Jersey.
The rust you see is just an idea of what has happened underneath.
$600 bid.......someone would have to pay me $600 to haul that away.
Just a WAG....what shape do you think the frame is in?
Do you see one piece of salvageable chrome?
From what you can see of the passenger door (and fit), do you think it's really salvageable?
Interior from what I can see under the spare rusted engine is not really there.
Steering wheel broke.
No shot of dash, but since this is a picked-over carcass, with everything usable pulled, and the engines/transmissions/carbs uncovered out in the weather (look at the pot metal/aluminium bit for a minute), my guess is nothing moves in the engine bay.
But, for about $50 grand, and 20 years of work, you, too could have this car restored!
Title listed as "other", so, the description of "This would be perfect for someone looking for rebuildable drivetranes", whatever a drivetrane is, is at least correct........holed parts notwithstanding.

OK - if not transporting, I would think that you could find enough parts to sell to recover half the current bid - and 300 +/- isn't bad for a OD - just mention it here as the seller didn't make mention in the ad of the OD... (and no, I agree that the car may be beyond the point of saving, unless one is a glutton for punishment)...

No doubt about it, the risk/reward is there for those parts. You could in fact be looking at 1 or 2 rebuildable engines, there is an existing transmission you don't even see which could even be another overdrive. Just wish I were closer to actually tire kick to really assess what is in that pile.

I do believe that was a poor choice of words.
Looking at the pictures, the very LAST thing anyone should ever do is kick those tyres.
I could list the reasons, but a crumbling pile of decomposed rubber after you kicked said tyre is somewhere on the list.
And, just for the sake of discussion, it looks like the tyres have been kicked by previous lookie-loos, first kick, driver's door fell off.
Second kick, RF wing fell off, etc.
The parts thrown into the interior are the remains of a complete car that suffered from "tyre kick" syndrome.

The least the owner could have done, when he sold off the tin, was take one of those 55-gallon drums you see in the background, whack one in half, top to bottom, and cover the engines.
Water, snow, through those air filters, through the carbs, into the engine, where it freezes...and splits the cylinder.
Seen it before.

When I see a car in that condition, I always think that it's hard to imagine what it was like like when the first proud owner took delivery of that car in '58 right from the dealer showroom and it was shiny and brand new with only a few miles on it without any rust or wear.

Nice roach! If you are ever looking for a TR3 project look me up I have a buddy I grew up with the has been hoarding a few TR3 projects over the years he will sell one or two and they aren't as rough as this one ;>)
