Eggsy - you mean the needle doesn't move at all?

Sounds like a broken or disconnected (or frozen) cable, either at the tach, or under the car.

This depends on if you have a cable drive or electric tacho.
If cable driven, the cable starts near the dizzy. If electric, it is pulse driven off of the dizzy/coil.
