I think Tabasco Sauce (made just 25 miles from my home at Avery Island) is pretty much everywhere in the world.

My son just returned from Borneo. He took a side trip to Komodo Island (home of the Komodo Dragons), in the middle of nowhere, ate at the only restaurant on the island, and they had Tabasco Sauce.

In 1970, I ate at a Russian restaurant in Madrid, Spain, in the middle of the cold war. No one spoke English, but they did have Tabasco Sauce on the table. After 4 Stolichnaya vodkas, <span style="font-weight: bold">I</span> no longer spoke English.
 
As a kid I always wondered how they made a sauce out of the same stuff that they made cigarettes from. Always wondered... then I saw it spelled out.

Omelet that go... no tabasco for me.
 
Well, believe it or not, Tabasco's not one of my favorites. Too much vinegar for me.

My hot sauce of choice is Crystal.

Yeah you right! I was just about to say the same, Mickey. Tabasco is made with the tabasco pepper. Crystal is made with cayenne pepper. Much more flavor.

That said, the McIlhenny family owns Tabasco, Avery Island salt mine, much oil and gas holdings and are responsible for bringing the pesky Nutria Rat into Louisiana. I guess the fact that neither Elliot, Mickey or I like the stuff won't hurt them one bit.

Go Crystal, especially on my Red Beans and Rice!

Hot dogs on a stick, doused in Tabasco, cooked over a camp fire! yuuuuuumy.
I always liked the teeny bottles they put in the MREs.

Speaking of MREs, man, those things are yummy! We had crappy C-rations during the Vietnam Conflict (I repeat, didn't go to Vietnam, worse, spent 2 years at Ft. Polk!). Those things were terrible compared to MREs (Meals, Ready to Eat). Got a couple of cases during Hurricane Katrina and ate all of them. Loaded with fat, but that is the idea I guess.
 
the latest ones, like you got during Katrina, are even better. The ones we had when I was camping as a kid didn't have the heat tabs and such in them.They were light years past C-rations tho. My cousin was in the Army and used to bring them home for his brother and I cause we camped all the time. I think I still have some of the Tabasco bottles hiding somewhere, and those crackers you could also use as body armor if you stuck them to your fatigues with the government peanut butter. hehehehe
I'm a big vinegar fan, so Tabasco is one of my favorites.
 
Tabasco sauce is the only hot sauce I put in bean soup! It has the most appealing taste, to me anyway. I've tried most others and Tabasco wins out every time. It is also good for clearing out the sinuses. :jester:

I prefer Crystal, actually. But if McIlhenny's is all I see, it works jus' FINE.

And the OTHER two bottles that seem to be ubiquitous are Heinz ketchup and Coca-Cola. You can be in the middle of nowhere and if there's a local eatery, Heinz will be onna tables and Coke in the menu of drinks.

If you can't find Crystal, look for Cajun Chef - close second place.
 
My neighbor used to make his own hot sauce. He would give it out at Christmas. Way too hot for my palate. I would use it to remove paint......thank goodness he quit making it.

That's how I feel about Dave's insanity sauce. Some co-workers played a good prank on me once with a LARGE portion of that stuff. Looking back it was pretty funny. I stay away from it now.
