Pat - That little push nip is called a tickler button and it is used to push the float down. The original function was to flush any grit out of the needle valves (you need to remember that in arly years, gas was extremely dirty from the pump and the filter in the SU fuel pump and on the lifds of the floar bowls was a rather course thing, ment to stop rocks and small birds). Today the tickler button is considered a fire hazard as it is lower than the overflow/vent tube at the top of the folat bowl lid and if the needle valve sticks open it is possible for the excess fuel to exit through the hole for th etickler button and the flw right down on a hot exhaust manifold. Many people remove the button and fill the hole with JB Weld. The new lids from Burlen Fuel Systems (maker of all things SU) come without the hole drilled. Cheers - Dave
