Hey guys
While I am rebuilding the steering box (done) I am also installing a new front sway bar. The paper work that is supplied with the unit is not very clear on the install. Does any body have a good photo of a complete install that I could refer to?

This is an Addco bar on my 58. Notice the brackets that bolt through the front bumper support. The brackets clamp the bar at corner of the bend of the bar to angle and line up with the bumper supports.

There was no way that the Addco reinforcing plate would fit inside the lip of the bumper support. So I used heavy washers under the bracket bolts on the bumper support side and positioned the reinforcing plates for the brackets on the bottom side of the front bumper bracket.

Photo is a little fuzzy but you'll get the idea.

(edit) The end links fasten through the front lower control arms. Just remove and replace the middle bolt with the Addco supplied bolt.

You want the end links as vertical as possible at normal ride height. So loosely assemble the bracket, links and bar; then set the car on it's wheels while you mark the bumper brackets for the bat attachments. You may need to tweak the bar arms a bit wider or narrower to get them to line up. Addco's advice was to stick one end under a wheel and pull/push on the other end, to bend it a little. (My rear bar was off by several inches, apparently because they supply the same bar for TR3 and TR4. Had to get different brackets from them, too.)

Don't recall now if that's what the instructions said, but I installed the flat plates between the bushings and the bumper brackets; with just a nut & lockwasher inside the bracket. Held up great for some 20 years.

the steering box rebuild went great. I downloaded the instructions from Macys garage as a referance. All the parts looked good except for the oil seal. Thanks for the help and support from all you guys.
Now my Beautiful wife can enjoy driving the TR also. Does any body know how to hook up power brakes? That was her only other complaint.

Dan-

I haven't used one, but you've probably seen the vacuum assist you can buy for the TR3 - they are a pretty simple hookup if you go that route. I have one tucked away on the shelf if you want a pic (Moss UK freebie for spending too much money). Might make them easier, but if I were doing it I'd probably go the full monty and convert to dual system at that point.
