Surprise Win

My 1964 BJ8 enters a few car shows each year but does not expect to win anything. She just enjoys being around other neat looking cars. She really does look nice; new BRG paint and all, but she is a driver with the original interior (56K thousand miles on her). Her owner (me) generally gives her a good washing and if she's lucky some new wax before the shows, but he doesn't get too carried away cleaning all the dirt and grease on the painted wire wheel spokes. The engine compartment gets a once over but no real detailing. So it was a nice surprise for her to win FIRST in her class (BJ7 & 8's) at the Seattle All British Field Meet yesterday. To show her how proud of her I was, I stopped at the Chevron station and filled her up with PREMIUM gas, even promised her an oil change, but that will have to wait until next weekend. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/winner1.gif

Heck with that trophy you can probably sell it at Christie's Auction for $80K!

Dontcha love it when the driver wins instead of the all-chromey dolled up fancy ones? It's great to see the working car get some respect.

Shorn,

Congrats on the win in the "roll-up window" class! I have taken my ice blue 1966 BJ8 to this meet for several years off and on. On Saturday for whatever reason the crowd liked blue that day and so I took third in class behind you.
Nice to be recognized once in a great while!
Do you know the owner that took second place?
Anyway,congratulations again!

Hi Scot,
I actually don't remember who took second. I guess I was too surprised about my first. I actually wasn't intending to stay for the awards but at the last minute decided to hang around. Yours is a beautiful car. I really enjoyed seeing it. As with most of these shows, there is no telling what makes a car win. Like you say, sometimes the voters like blue and the blue car wins, other times its green or red. I guess the great thing about the all British Field Meet is being able to see the different Bristish cars. The MGC touring cars are really impressive. Certainly the very old Bentley that was there is neat as well.
