Used to carry two sets of snow skis across the rear luggage rack of the 4A all the way to the mountains !

You could do same with high density foam between the boards. Check your state regs. though! We can't legally exceed 88 inches in width here

well I have a bunch of sailboards (similar in size to a surfboard) and the idea of lashing them to the 6 has completely evaded me. that's what my trucks are for. Now if you get one of those nifty board trailers that hold 4 to 8 boards I would bet the six would pull it (not a whole lot of weight there...)

When I read this post yesterday two pictures came to mind.
The first was really silly and I resisted, but I lost the battle. You could saw the boards in half and put hinges on them. Then they would fit on the luggage rack. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The second, even though silly, might just be attainable. If you mount them just right you might be able to transform your TR into a glider. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

The hinged surfboard already exists, but I don't have one.
The boards are over 8 feet in length (longboards) so they'd have to go along the length of the car.
Putting one end in the passenger's footwell might work, but what about my passenger?
I have a pickup which is what we use now, but taking the TR6 would make the trips even better.
I'm thinking of some kind of upside down u-shaped thing, attached to the rear bumper, that comes up to the height of the windshield. The boards could be tied down to the windshield and the u-shaped bumper attachment.
I dunno, somebody must have already figured this out..

well... if you are handy with a welder...
U on the back and across to the windshield would work. Or you could do like some of the bicycle racks I've seen - put two u's extended like a pontoon on the passenger side front and rear and mount the board alongside but "on edge". A couple of tubes mounted or welded on the frame could accept the racks with pins to hold them in place. Your buddy would have to climb in from the driver side but it just might work.
I saw a Datsun roadster one time in Santa Barbara with a couple of kids heading to the beach and they just put their boards in an X behind each seat and crossing in the middle. But they were shortboards and I think a longboard would just stick too far up and out.
You could also always install one of those "show-bar" rollbars and you'd have your height and support at the rear and you wouldn't have to mess around with a bracket at the bumper to take on and off. Or build a box to fit on a luggage rack on the trunk with enough height to clear your heads.

Roll Bar. Lay them on top of the roll bar and the windshield, tie them down and your in buisness. Now you probably just have to get a Roll Bar. ****! The cost of these cars just never stops.
