I’m trying to install the front springs on my 4A using the SuperPro polyurethane packing pieces, however they’re too small to fit easily over the spring locating horns.
First I tried lining them up as best I could, hoping the spring would seat them correctly. No such luck, they caught on one edge or the other of the horn and deformed significantly.
Next I tried pre-fitting them to the lower spring pan by pressing down on the raised inner flange of the packing pieces. I was able to force them correctly into place this way, but they slip off as soon as the pressure is removed.
I thought about applying some heat when they were fitted as above, but didn’t think it would do any good since the material is a thermoset polyurethane.
I also thought about trying to glue them in place before installing the spring, but decided to try to tap into the collective wisdom of everyone here before making a mess I’d regret.
I did search the forum but didn’t find anything about my specific problem, but surely someone has already fought this battle.
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated,
Jim
