I found this reference from a link in the "interesting site" post.

Anyone know any details of this "adiabatic" or "superheated fuel" theory? Any real documentation of the real success and/or reality of the technique?

I could care less about the "big oil conspiracy" bit; I'm interested in any details of what Shell was investigating and what techniques they found (and do they work?). Seems if they could get over 300mpg over 30 years ago, then something a tad better than 40mpg could be do-able these days. Unless of course that +300mpg was measured only when the test car ran downhill.

Thanks.
Tom

I read several years ago they (whoever "they" are) were trying to make engines out of ceramics in order to run the engine much hotter and get better fuel mileage. Ceramics are just too brittle in an engine configuration.

Maybe I should just stay out of this subject, but I'll just add a couple of offerings. Many years ago I designed this.

It's just one small item of a complicated fuel system. The heart of the system and other parts I can't show for various reasons. It was tried and proven. We built a car around it and the system works. A patent on the basic design is still pending due to a patent filed in 1927. Yes you read right! 1927. Could take years or never to gel. $$$$$. There are tons of fuel systems in the patent office and most are worthless. Some are downright ridiculousness and I have no idea how they ever got a patent on them. I have a library on the subject. But if the patents exist, their a road block for some designs. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is and if it sounds real good, the oil company's have it in their vaults before it ever hits the streets. If you want to work on something that will be a benefit to all, forget the common fuels and play with a Hydrogen system. The theory is out there to be grasped by some bright young person. Hydrogen is the future fuel. All you need to do is put your heart and sole into it and someday, maybe, the world will benefit from your efforts. Sorry for running on, but it's JMHO. PJ

And if you want somewhere to start, try solving either the transportation issues, or the fuel cell service life issue...
