superchargers for austin healeys

I have been thinking lately, Moss has introduced superchargers for the MG and Triumph. Basicly because both cars are grossly under powered! Unlike my 67 austin healey bj8 which has decent power. But, I do wonder if a austin healey supercharger can be far behind!
 
Well, if they do, I hope they develop something worthwhile, like producing manifolding that will accept an Opcon Autorotor, or a similar positive displacement compressor.

I just finished putting one on a 98 ///M Rdstr; the impression is not one of increasing the horsepower, more like you've just doubled the size of the engine. When you run it up through a few gears, you have to remind yourself to breathe!

Both units, Active Autowerke (his) and Eurosport (mine) use the same compressor, but the details on mine are MUCH nicer!

Do you have any advice for my BMW X5 4.8XI, it just went off warranty.
 
Very Nice installation Randy, Maybe you could beat moss to the punch and do a nice tidy installation on your Healey sometime! Nice Winter project! I just have to wonder what the result would be on a healey if done Right! I am sitting here putting the sound of the healey and supercharger together in my fertile mind!!!!

I'd continue to keep up with the maintenance and inspection services, just like you did under warranty.

I have to say though, I never did get onboard with 15,000 mile oil changes; I do them at 4500 miles.

I have long referred to the X5 as a sportscar with a view! We're now on our third :smile:

The guy that owns an 01 ///M Coupe I just worked on was telling me about his buddy's X5M. The guy (is WELL OFF and) rents a dragstrip/racetrack around NY about once a month. The guy with another passenger and the a/c on ran a 12.some-second run in the quarter. Box Stock.

Talk about change your perspective; a decent stock 60s muscle car was hard pressed to run in the 14s.

My winter project this year, is making sure that I'm not still here next winter!

We signed the paperwork tonight, to send back to Florida Next Day tomorrow, purchasing a lot to build on.

I'll have my hands full packing up, moving and re-setting up my garage, I'm hopeful to get in sometime soon after the first of the year.

I think it would be easier to just swap in the whole S-52 3.2 BMW engine/twinscrew supercharger... :wink:

As to the AH supercharger, this is something my brother thinks about all the time. He believes the engine is perfectly set up for such a modification. The fabrication that would be needed to create the manifolds would be costly and time consuming. And of course, there is the question of how to deliver the fuel. Now you need/want an injection system, but if you are developing an intake manifold, you can include that in your new design.
 
I recently want to a track and saw this one.

It is an Eaton supercharger from a Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe. The owner said that the fabrication and installation was incredibly easy (2 flat plates) and that the car runs MUCH better.

It might work on a 100-4.

Doesn't Steve Pike's 100S Streamliner have a supercharger in it?...My calender says that is what failed him at his salt flats run.

Nah, you just have to lengthen the LF A-arms about a foot each, and cut away the inner fender__no bulge in the hood required, just a longer tie-rod...

Bill: it will be our sole residence, assuming that we can sell the house in Ohio; know anybody relocating to the Toledo area? Awesome garage and M/BR (12 x 20 walk in closet)!
 
Hi Randy, I have been spending my winters in Bali Indonesia the past 3 years, 80 everyday and a better life style then the states. Only draw back, I can't bring my toys with me! I don't blame you a bit for moving, At this stage in life who wants to deal with the harsh winters in the midwest! Not to mention storing our sports cars away till spring. Those days are over! Good luck selling your home in this hope and change economy!!!!!

We'll have to meet up near Jacksonville or so after you get moved down next year. Our sister BN6's can meet too ! Good luck with the home sale as that will be the hardest part. You gonna continue the BMW wrenching or just stick to Healey's ?

I'll throw out some ideas out as to why we don't have a supercharger kit available for big Healeys:

1. As mentioned, they make pretty good power already

2. As mentioned, it is tighter under the hood of a big Healey than say, a TR4-6.

3. Smaller market, fewer big Healeys than TRs, plus, at least in general, there are a few more hot rodders in the Triumph crowd than the Healey clan, and conversely, more originality types among the Healey owners (before I get cyber beat up over this statement, I realize there are many exceptions to this statement, but I will stand by it as a generalization), so less potential return on investiment in a Healey supercharger kit,

I don't even think Judson offered one back in the day, maybe cooling/underhood heat would be an issue too.
 
I work with a semi-retired machinist who has a Daimler V8 saloon and one of his projects is to build a double scale, twin Shorrock supercharger for it. So far after five years he has the bones of a working prototype which looks really cool but is still not quite ready to bolt on. I have put my name down for the first Healey conversion... not holding my breath tho.

Imagine if there's room to fit it under the hood of an SP250 Dart? It would leave everything in its tracks!
