supercharger for 4.2 E Type

Although I have owned and maintained British motorcycles for over 40 years I have purchased my first British automobile, a 1969 Series 2 fhc. I would appreciate information regarding a supercharger for the 6 cylinder 4.2 motor. I have experience with supercharging since I put one on my Porsche last spring, however I have been unable to find any information about an established system for the E Type. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I've had ETypes all my life but never heard of a SC kit for the 4.2 litre EType engine. But its a great motor as is.

I never heard of such a thing either.......in the UK or in the USA. That XK unit really didn't need one. The brakes on the E-Type were marginal for the car anyway, at least the early ones, so a supercharger may be overkill.....literally!

Thanks for the replies. However I have upgraded suspension and brakes. I guess I'll see about engineering it myself. I don't want my E Type to be left behind by my Porsche or my ERA.

I know that there was a pair of Pininfarina bodied XK120's with twin superchargers at one time. I think one of them is owned by a member of the South Florida Jaguar Club. They might be able to get you some information as to the set up on that car.

ERA ; ERA? Gasp, drool - Which one?

Roger, the ERA is a 289 FIA done as a street roadster. It is featured on ERA web site as "original wire wheel" in the FIA/289 section. The motor is a 331 stroker, Jag diff., Jag splines for wires etc. I had it built in 1999-2000 (got it in late Aug. '00), done 30k since then.

we must be talking completely different ERA's then, obviously not a 1930's model, (six cylinder, twin cam, supercharged single seater racing car)
