Superchargers are great torque makers and really change the way a car moves.
I'd go that route but only with fuel injection not a carb.
I've seen brand new rebuilt engines blow due to low octane fuel/blocked carbs. Very critical getting the induction just right and it doesn't take much to upset the balance. That's why they didn't really become popular until FI became standard.

:iagree:

I think it is prudent to use electronic fuel injection when force feeding an engine with either a super or turbo charger. No doubt that carbs can be made to work, and if I went that route, an O2 sensor would be a must to track the fuel-air ratio. Too easy to trash an engine when running lean under boost. I have a supercharger on my Miata, and it has been very reliable for quite a few years now, but on two occasions, I started to run slightly lean (as noticed on the AFR gauge) and it turned out to be the fuels pump not able to supply enough pressure to the injectors. I finally got an improved pump which has been in there for about three years now. The system on the Miata uses an auxillary pressure regulator to increase the rail pressure when going into boost. At six psi of supercharger pressure, the injectors need 85 psi of fuel pressure.

Other then that, forced induction is actually a good way to get more power easily as long as you keep the boost within reasonable levels. At 6 psi, most systems give about a 40% increase in power...very noticable...like WOW when you first drive the car after installation. It's all bolt on, and can be returned to stock very easily...not that you'd ever want too.

Edit: BTW, I believe so much in AFR gauges, that I installed an O2 sensor on my TR3 restoration. It'll be a nice tuning device for the SU's when I finally get things on the road. Right now they are running pig rich.

I've also noticed that this vendor in NC has been selling alot of Triumph performance and other parts on e-bay for several months now.

You all know how I feel about AFR gauges. Best tuning device for multiple carbs or fuel injection.

I would have loved to see some speedometer and tachometer readings, but those would probably be admissible in a court of law, no doubt?

Paul, my thoughts exactly. I was hoping to see some quite quick
tachometer action; but, hey, he probably just doesn't want to blow the
thing up.

I recall you've had a tendancy to put your foot in your new ride a bit.

Love the look and sound, although I am not going the supercharger route it is nevertheless and inspiration to see something so nice and finished.

I'm pretty sure that is the same Sal that has been selling superchargers in Hemmings for quite awhile...
There is a good article in the latest issue of "The Vintage Triumph" about a supercharger fitted to a Spitfire, done at Standard Performance. Mr. French seems to know what he's talking about.
I've bought parts from his Ebay store, very easy to deal with, he even sent me a Christmas card!

He looks very proficient but that doesn't change the dynamics of carburated forced induction....too many variables outside ones control.
Works great until it doesn't and then you've a blown motor. When they break that way they grenade.

2W,

Oh yeah! But within the prescribed limits. However, this summer the break in mileage is over and the games begin.

Dont say "BREAK IN"

One more reason why you will never see the Banana on those white roads!

Heck, look what happened to me on an 80 degree, sunny day while sitting at a stop sign? Go out on snow and ice??? Fugghedduhbouttit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody delete this post. It is making me nervous with more ideas.
