Sun visor replacement question

anyone have any hints on replacing the sun visor stays. The originals are riveted to the windshield frame. can the rivets be safely drilled out with the windshield in place without cracking the windshield?

I haven't done this yet but it would seem that if the rivets are already in there then there would be clearance to drill them out carefully. I would do the lower one very cautiously and see what is in there. You might even be able to kinda "drill" the head off and push it into the frame. I don't think it would rattle too much with the windshield seal in there as well. Just my .02 though since I haven't tried it yet. I see them for sell all the time on ebay. You might ask someone who is parting one out to see if it is safe..

drilling out and using some short sheetmetal screws is safe.
