For those of you that enjoy Austin Powers, there was a great animation of Austin trying to reverse his electric car in a narrow tunnel...

Glad the ship is free! The backlog is something like 400 ships, meaning there are about 50-60 ships arriving every day at the canal. Holy shipping!

I'm glad they got it free finally! I'll bet the cheers could be heard for miles from those Tug captains!

Did not know that! History is amazing (and oft-repeating). Thank you for sharing!

I'll bet some of the locals at the ends of the canal are disappointed. I'd seen that local fisherman and others with boats had been using the stopped traffic as a market for local stuff while it was stopped up.

This showed up in the newspaper here - as an aftermath of the 6 Day War in 1967 - 14 ships were stuck for 8 years.

It was Egypt that SANK ships in the canal to block and curtail Israeli resupply ships during that conflict: "Disused ships were scuttled, mines were sunk and all manner of debris was dropped into the canal to prevent any ship traversing its length." Act of Desperation. Made little difference to the outcome and IMHO did more damage than good, as Egypt was shortly to be handed ownership of the Canal by agreement in the original contract with the English and French.

Just pleased the tanker was able to be righted.
