im currently getting some tunes going in my midget....
i have a very nice Panasonic tuner, and a Kicker component
set on the way....
i also have a good supply of 12 and 15 inch woofers.......
has anybody come up with a custom box, etc so i can get a sub in the back without taking up the whole boot?
some pics would be nice if anyone has ideas.....
its not my first box , so im considering removing the
current speaker location and building the box so it fills the gap and mounting my component set on it with a sub on the back of the box..know what i mean?...ideas?.........zimmmy

For your information, "sub woofer" is just advertising hype for a "woofer". Woofer has been around for a very long time, as a term for a low frequency only speaker. Any speaker that cannot reproduce a 30 Hertz frequency easily without distortion, is a woofer in name only. When "sub" has lost it's novelty, sub - sub or some other extra - extra term will be applied.

It takes a "linear" voice coil travel of about 3/8" on a 12" speaker, to reproduce a frequency of 30 Hertz without distortion. Much more at 20 HZ. The thumping so called bass that you hear in cars is mostly just distorted noise.

at $500 im sure it can reproduce a
note low enough to make u hurl ; )

I put a Pioneer CD deck in my Midget, mounted two 3.5" 2 way speakers behind the original grille and two 4.5" 2 way speakers in small triangular enclosures on the floor in front of the seats. I didn’t want to cut any holes in the car. The sound is pretty clean. I may see if I can fit my 6.5" powered bazooka tube in the boot for a bit of extra punch. It's in my Ranger now but I'm tossing around the idea of trading the Ranger for a '99 Miata. Two convertibles would be better than one. I’d use the Mazda for daily transportation. (I digress)
 
I recently installed 2 12" Memphis M1 in my standard cab pickup (read....NO room) in a custom box, they perform excellent on a very small enclosure space and have around a 6" mounting depth.

Ill bet a single one of those in a well made case would suffice nicely w/o taking up to much room. Most of the midrange/high end subs have an unreasonable mounting depth but in my experience this is very good performance on limited space.

itll sound excellent even without the sub, but being a musician and part time bass player, i gotta have my thump!
the main problem is all the curves in the car and that darn spare tire lump right in the middle of the boot.........z
