SU retrofit

I'm thinking of a SU retrofit for my 6. Most of the SU HS6 that come from a Volvo have a fuel bowl that's tilted at an angle. Are these bowls adjustable, and is it a good idea to use a carb from a Volvo.

Thanks for any imput.

As I remember, the SUs used on the Volvos were actually smaller than those used on TRs. In addition, they used needles that were of a completely different taper. (Obviously, that's a really easy swap to get the right needles in there.)

Now, I actually have seen Triumphs and Datsuns with SUs sourced from Volvos -- but it has been a very, very long time.

Given the nature of the HS6, I can imagine that one can adjust the angle of the float bowl with a little tinkering.

There is a gasket or some such thing that straightens it out. I am going on sheer memory and that is real fuzzy.

Hello John,

the float bowl angle is altered by replacing the adapter between the bowl assembly and the carburettor body. One of your specialist suppliers should be able to supply those, and the correct needle, or failing that contact www.burlen.co.uk who make all the S.U. spares.
The fact that they originally came off a Volvo is irrelevant.
