SU Pump Fittings?

A question about SU fuel pump connections, this one has me baffled. I had an electronic SU fuel pump that I damaged. I want to replace it and I have an identical new one ready to go (fwiw, Moss part number 377-275). Here's the question: My old pump had the threaded brass fittings with the serrated cone-style attachement for rubber hoses. These fittings came with the old pump, but I'm not sure they were factory or someone from Moss just tossed them in. I say that because although the threads engage smoothly for 1 3/4 turns, the hand tightening stops pretty much after that, to the point that the brass fitting only goes, at best, half way in the pump body. No way it would seal flush with the pump body. The old fitting was just cranked down super hard with teflon tape on the threads, and seemed to work OK until I damaged it. The new pump has no supplied fittings. Ordinarily I'd of course just use the old fittings but I don't want to replicate lousy connections on the new pump. So, is this a normal way for these fittings to attach? I really doubt it. If not, any idea where I can get some that fit properly, and/or anyone know of the thread sizing (I tested them and they seem to be a loose SAE 5/8). Any ideas are very welcome, many thanks in advance

HI TOM:

What you have is a Mickey Mouse set up. Simplicity suggests that you locate similar but correct fittings for the new pump and reconnect it to the metal fuel line using Rubber hose and the appropriate clamps.--Fwiw--Keoke

What you have are British pipe threads, not American. Do not force the ones you have on tight as you will ruin the pump threads. I did find some fittings online for my pump but I can't remember where.

Hi Tom, don't try and put the old fittings on the new pump. Two sources I know of are "Automec" and "Holdens", possibly even "AH Spares" all UK companies. I'm surprised Moss doesn't sell replacement fittings. Make sure you tell them the model SU pump you have.
