SU jet removal

Offline
Hi Folks,
was trying to remove the jet assy from the bottom of the float bowl. Had the nut unscrewd from the bottom of the bowl , but the flex hose seemed stuck. Any tricks?.

thanx

Have a new replacement on hand and a lot of patience - try a little spray of penetrating oil and some friendly persuasion. If the flexible line has any appreciable age on it it'll be prone to crack and leak.

I find that there are different qualities in rebulid kits and particularly jets out there - without naming names I'll hint that a couple of the big American sources have ones of lesser quality while, if you buy them from the jolly old UK, more particularly off the website of the manufacturer you can obtain the real deal which last a lot longer and fail a lot less.

or Joe Curto - He's forgotten more about SU's than you and I could learn if we had ten lifetimes and if you send him an email, incredibly he'll answer it personally and give you one-on-one assistance - Hard to believe? Outside the realm of possibility? yess, but true none the less - Joe Curto's THE MAN.

Just my 2 cents worth - opinions are like ears - everybody's usually got one or two of em'

Mark, if the nut is already out, the plastic tube is just stuck. They can be a bear to get out without hurting the tube. Maybe a little heat from a hair dryer? Generally, the only time I pull a jet is to replace it, so I just yank.

I recently did this on mine. A little hot water (assuming they are off the car entirely) or a little "PB Blaster" to loosen thig up.

There is between 99% and 100% chance of wrecking the tube. I'd recommend only doing one at a time -- use the other as a guide (Moss books are also a good reference).

The jet themselves will be a little tricky to get out. Be gentle or you'll snap them with the base still inside. I seem to remember a "tightening" screw on those. Forget at the moment. Maybe someone else can comment.

Good luck--

George
