SU H6 cork washer - o-ring substitute???

I hate cork.

So on H6 carbs, the jet jolder assembly uses 3 cork seals/washers - two small ones (moss# 295-200) for the jet bushings, and one large one (295-000) for the bottom sealing ring.

Moss sells rubber replacements for the 2 small ones, but not the large one. An old-school mechanic told me he used rubber o-rings instead.

Anyone else tried this?

As long as I'm at it, anyone found stainless clevis pins to replace the rust-a-licious stock bits? Thought I'd ask before I checked MSC, McMaster, and Fastenal.

Oooo.... and anyone found an alternative to the "W" throttle shaft coupler clamps?
 
If done correctly, they can certainly seal better, but make it more difficult to use the choke. The graphite impregnated cork ones were designed to allow the jets to slide (obviously).

I have used silicone coated o-rings in the past to replace the graphite impregnated cork jet seals. I bought them from a guy in Maine who catered to Volvo owners. These allowed you to use the choke. Another option would be to coat the neoprene o-rings with a silicone paste like Dow Corning 111.

In an old technical article in "The Sacred Octagon", the New England MG"T" Register magazine, it described the jet bearing seal o-ring replacement and also using a neoprene o-ring to replace the larger cork seal. I also tried this. The difficult part is compressing the o-ring sufficiently to get the jet bearing assembly closed up against the carb body. As I recall there should only be about a 1/32" gap between the carb body and the aluminum sealing ring.

I also tried using an o-ring as a float bowl cover seal. This did not work well because of the small diameter of the o-ring and the elastic nature of the material, it would not stay in place.
