SU Float Setting

Aloha All,

After setting the float height, where should the fuel level be in the jet? Specifically, how far down the jet is the fuel level.

Safety Fast,
Dave

I don't see where the SU book specifically answers your question. What it does say is to fit the needle, hinged lever and hinge pin. With the hinged lever resting on the seated needle, check that an 11mm diameter drill can be inserted between the forked lever and the lip of the float chamber lid. Adjustments can be made by bending the lever at the base of the fork. This information is according to the Haynes SU carburetor repair manual

The number I'm sure differs from carb to carb. This number I should have qualified is for H and HD series.

Thanks for the quick responses. The SU carb I'm asking about is an H6 and off hand I think the float lever clearance between the float bowl cover is 7/16". As a check for the proper setting of this adjustment, you can remove the suction chamber and piston and observe the fuel level in the jet. One article I read said the fuel level should be "near" the top of the jet. I was wondering if some one could more clearly define "near".

Safety Fast,
Dave
