I recently bought a replacement SU fuel pump for a 72 Midget and it has extra pipes that my previous pump does not have. I identified the vent pipe and found out that it can be closed with silicone. What is the other small pipe located on the edge of the pump housing? Any assistance is appreciated. Please see attached photo.

ps72MG, They are both vents and do not plug either of them up,Install the pump using the enclosed instructions.--FWIW---Keoke

Thanks!!There were no instructions in the box that's why I'm puzzled since my old pump had no vents. I did find the hose leading to the boot for the pipe marked breather in my attached photo. Any suggestions for the other one?

Hi ps72mg,The original instructions called for routing the vents to a dry place like inside the boot.First time I have heard of someone finding the hose still in the car.I do not think it is critical at all unless you are going to be driving in the wet alot.Probably very few of us use that technique anymore.---Keoke

Well I was just thinking if you wanted the venting, you could pick up at the auto parts store a barbed plastic Tee of the proper size and a short piece of matching hose.Insert the Tee into the existing hose and route the other vent with the new hose to the unused nipple on the Tee.?

The "T" sounds like a good solution. On early Minis that vent is routed into the passenger compartment. I always thought that was VERY strange.

Hi DKLawson, I feel like routing anything associated with fumes from the fuel system inside the car is a bit over the top. Jaguar's FHC/Saloons were plagued by interior fumes from the fuel sytem for years. My S3 XJ6 will Poo on ocasions too.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
